In this 1957 photo from The New York Times, a Douglas A-3 Skywarrior catapults from the deck of USS Saratoga (CV-60) during NATO exercises. Covering the starboard deck is a collection of Douglas A-1D Skyraiders, and nestled among them is a Douglas F4D (F-6) Skyray.

One of my favorite parts of Flight of the Intruder is the Sandy footage. Those Spads are so kick ass.

The Skyraider is Badass. That reminds me I need to get my model built.

Fun fact: the Skyraider carried more ordnance than the B-17.

I love me some Skyraiders, but the Skyray was a beautiful aircraft.

Fun Skyray facts: It held the absolute speed record for a carrier-based aircraft (752.943 mph), and was the first Navy aircraft to exceed Mach 1 in level flight. And it’s gorgeous. Another Ed Heinemann masterpiece.
